RESPECT WALK WITH ME

In an orchard where activism and the ambition to improve dominates over the incessant vandalism suffered by the allotments, the proposal for “Luces de Barrio” (Neighbourhood Lighting) 2016 departs from the motivation of the gardeners to turn their words into light.

San Jeronimo is one of the oldest community allotments of the city. These orchards host a wide variety of educational and demonstrative programmes, such as the school orchards, the sheepherding of local sheep, the production of organic eggs, the “experimenta” allotment and internships through the Leonardo programme. It is a very active community allotment and every month there are organic markets where local produce can be tested. A field of illuminated letter scattered around the orchard, collaborative designed with the artist Fernando Mansilla and built, allows to read the message the San Jeronimo gardeners would like to share: RESPECT WALK WITH ME.
